Latourell Falls, in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge within Guy W. Talbot State Park, is one of the gorge’s best-known waterfalls. It stands out because the water plunges straight from an overhanging basalt cliff instead of descending in steps. The site is also valued for its striking columnar basalt, which gives the cliff a geometric appearance. Near the Historic Columbia River Highway, the lower falls are visible from parts of the road, while a parking area, path to the base, and a 2.1-mile loop trail to the upper falls make the waterfall accessible. Just below, Latourell Creek Bridge contributes to the highway’s historic landmark status.
