Elisha and Margaret (Peggy) Ann Mannon Chambers immigrated to Texas in 1847 with their seven children. Elisha took up two headrights in Collin and Dallas counties, donating part of his homestead for a cemetery and a school in present-day Chambersville. The land was originally called "Chambers" in honor of Elisha and Peggy's donation. The town thrived at the turn of the 20th century with a sawmill, blacksmith, cotton gin, post office, and two general stores. By the late 1880s, Chambersville School was already a center for community gathering, first standing on the south edge of the cemetery before the community outgrew it and built a new school in 1916 two hundred yards southwest. Beyond annual Christmas tree celebrations and end-of-school exhibitions, the school served as an auditorium and gathering hall, and its gymnasium was used as a skating rink in the 1950s. During World War I, the Red Cross operated from the school, where local women made bandages and wrapped packages for servicemen. The school continued as a community meeting place until it was destroyed in 1973. The local church also played a central role in uniting current and former residents. The first church was built in 1905, and a new church designed and built by pastor Thomas M. Robertson was completed in 1949. Church members organized local events such as the harvest festival, continuing to strengthen Chambersville's cultural traditions and community ties.
