Guy Heulett (Hulett) Watkins, a lawyer from Towanda, was instrumental in enrolling Bradford County men. Severely wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville, he recovered and returned to service, only to be killed at Petersburg, Virginia, at a location known as Hare House, shot while gallantly leading his men in a charge. He was moved behind a brow of the hill and succumbed two hours later while in the arms of Captain Atkinson on June 18, 1864.
