Kinnerly Peak is a 9,949-foot mountain in Glacier National Park’s Livingston Range, in the remote northwestern corner of Montana near the Canada–United States border. Ranking as the park’s eighth tallest summit, it is especially known for its immense north face above Upper Kintla Lake, where it rises 5,573 feet in about a mile horizontally, creating one of the area’s most dramatic steep walls. The first recorded ascent came in 1937 by a Sierra Club party led by Norman Clyde. Its sedimentary rock was formed in ancient shallow seas, and its present shape is linked to the Lewis Overthrust, a massive geologic event that began about 170 million years ago.
