Kintla Peak, in Glacier National Park’s Livingston Range, rises 10,106 feet and is the range’s highest summit and the park’s third-highest. It is also the northernmost land above 10,000 feet in the contiguous United States. In the remote northwest corner of the park, its steep prominence above Upper Kintla Lake and difficult access have made it one of the area’s most demanding climbs, with the standard route ascending from the Agassiz Glacier basin over rock and often snow. Formed of ancient Precambrian Belt Supergroup rock, the peak also carries a name derived from Kootenai tradition tied to the nearby lakes.
