Joseph Spencer lived from 1714 to 1789. Near this green stood his farm, store, and dwelling house. He served as an officer in the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War, was a delegate to the Continental Congress, a member of the Connecticut Council of Safety and General Assembly, town moderator, and deacon of the Millington Church.
