Logging took place throughout the area, with loggers cutting trees during the winter and skidding them near streams so they could be floated to the Delaware in the spring. In the river, hundreds of logs were fastened together into rafts and sent downriver to Easton, Trenton, and Philadelphia. Long Eddy's calm waters served as a resting place where raftsmen spent the night while transporting logs from farther upriver.
