Dosewallips State Park in Washington lies at the mouth of the Dosewallips River on Hood Canal, where freshwater and saltwater environments meet across 1,064 acres of river, beach, and estuary landscape. Created through four land purchases between 1954 and 1972, it preserves traces of earlier homesteads at Dose Meadows and railroad beds from the timber era, when logs were hauled from the mountains and dumped into the water for transport. The area is important habitat for fish and wildlife, including four species of wild salmon, steelhead, wintering elk, and abundant shellfish. It is also a major setting for outdoor recreation.
