Star Peak is an 8,693-foot mountain in Washington’s Methow Mountains, within the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness of the Okanogan–Wenatchee National Forest. The highest point on Sawtooth Ridge and the state’s 35th-highest peak, it also divides local drainage, with water flowing south toward Lake Chelan through Prince Creek and north into Buttermilk Creek, a tributary of the Twisp River. East of the Cascade crest, the area is relatively dry, but the mountain’s elevation brings an alpine climate with warm summer days, occasional thunderstorms, and lingering snow. Its rugged setting was formed by volcanic activity, terrane accretion, uplift, faulting, and repeated Pleistocene glaciation.
