Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness is a 153,057-acre protected wilderness in north-central Washington within the Okanogan and Wenatchee national forests, beside Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and near North Cascades National Park. Designated by the Washington Wilderness Act of 1984, it preserves a rugged glacial landscape of dense forest, meadows, alpine slopes, high basins, and cirques. Its 63 lakes, many unnamed and isolated, are a notable feature. Wildlife includes bears and mule deer below tree line, while about 194 miles of trails lead into higher country. Limited access by boat or through surrounding protected lands helps preserve its remote character and sense of isolation.
