This article discusses the former mine sites of Mt. Harris and Victor American, both located in Colorado. The Mt. Harris mine operated from 1914 to 1958 and was considered a model mining camp, with its own power plant, water facilities, and a thriving business district. The mine was also known for its safety record, with only seven reported deaths during its operation. Surrounding mines within a seven-mile radius also produced high-grade coal between 1913 and 1965. The Victor-American (Wadge) mine opened in 1916 and was also prosperous until a mine explosion in 1942 killed 34 miners. The mine closed in 1951 and the homes and buildings were sold at auction. A list of miners who lost their lives in the Victor-American mine disaster is included.
