Kerr Arboretum and Botanical Area, formally the Robert S. Kerr Memorial Arboretum, Nature Center and Botanical Area, preserves 8,026 acres in the Ouachita National Forest near Talihina, Oklahoma. In the Ouachita Mountains, it is valued not as a formal garden but as a protected landscape with notable plant communities distinguished by their variety, occurrence, and location. Its ecological diversity includes dwarf white oaks, yellow buckeye, Ouachita indigo, and grass seeps. The area remains largely undeveloped, with only short interpretive trails and basic amenities, supporting hiking, horseback riding, sightseeing, photography, nature study, bird-watching, and limited hunting while emphasizing conservation and quiet, low-impact recreation.
