Upper Kiamichi River Wilderness is a protected area in Oklahoma's Ouachita National Forest, created by Congress in 1988 and managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Spanning 9,754 acres, it includes Pine Mountain and Rich Mountain, whose long ridges rise above 2,600 feet. Streams and waterfalls flowing from these heights form the headwaters of the Kiamichi River, and the forest contains beech, pine, and dense oak. About 7 miles of the Ouachita National Recreation Trail pass through the area, providing access to some of eastern Oklahoma's highest ridges. The wilderness is shielded from roads, buildings, logging, mining, and all motorized or mechanized travel, including bicycles.
