Early Winters Spires are twin granite formations in Washington’s North Cascade Range, between Liberty Bell Mountain and Blue Lake Peak. Though they look like separate summits, the North and South spires are one granite mass split by a deep cleft formed through jointing, erosion, weathering, and ice wedging. Their surrounding landscape was shaped over millions of years by uplift, faulting, and repeated glaciation, creating rugged peaks and deep valleys. The South Spire was first climbed in 1937 and the North Spire in 1950. Known for dramatic geology and Northwest climbing history, the North Spire was also the site of a fatal climbing accident in 2025.
