Liberty Bell Mountain, a granite peak in Washington’s North Cascades near Washington Pass, is one of the state’s best-known climbing mountains despite its modest height. As the northernmost spire of the Liberty Bell Group, it is prized for high-quality granite, a short approach, and a wide range of traditional routes, from moderate climbs to long and difficult lines. Its accessibility increased after the Washington Pass Highway improved access to the area. First climbed on September 27, 1946, by Fred Beckey, Jerry O’Neil, and Charles Welsh, it became especially renowned through routes such as Liberty Crack and remains a central destination in North Cascades climbing culture.
