Himmelhorn
Nature
Himmelhorn is a 7,880-foot summit in the remote Picket Range of North Cascades National Park, one of the range’s most rugged areas. Just west of Mount Terror and above the small Mustard Glacier, it was first climbed on September 8, 1961, by Ed Cooper, Glen Denny, Joan and Joe Firey, and George Whitmore. Originally called Himmelgeisterhorn, its name means Horn of the Sky Spirit. The peak rises from a landscape formed over millions of years by glaciation, uplift, and faulting, while the wet marine climate of the western Cascades brings heavy precipitation and deep winter snow.
