Mount Crowder is a steep, remote summit in Washington’s Picket Range, rising sharply above Goodell Creek within North Cascades National Park and the Stephen Mather Wilderness. Its dramatic relief, small glacier features, and wet maritime climate make it part of one of the range’s most rugged and avalanche-prone landscapes. First climbed in 1962 while known as Old Brownie, the mountain was officially renamed in 1970 for geologist, mountaineer, and conservationist Dr. Dwight F. Crowder. Through twelve years with the United States Geological Survey, guidebook work, and first ascents, Crowder helped document, explore, and deepen understanding of the North Cascades.
