Moquah Barrens Research Natural Area is a 636-acre protected pine barrens in northern Wisconsin within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Designated a Wisconsin State Natural Area in 1970 and recognized as a National Natural Landmark in 1980, it holds both ecological and statewide significance. The source of the Flag River rises in the northwest corner, adding an important hydrologic feature to a landscape valued for its barrens habitat. The area remains protected for its distinctive natural character and as part of Wisconsin’s network of important natural areas.
