The Dennis L. Edwards Tunnel is on the Sunset Highway 12 miles east of here. On August 21, 2002, the Oregon Transportation Commission named it in memory of Dennis L. Edwards, who lost his life on January 28, 1999, while performing his duties inside the tunnel when a section of the tunnel collapsed. It also honors all ODOT maintenance employees who risk their lives every day to maintain and operate the state highway system.
