Lower Wolfjaw Mountain is a 4,185-foot summit in the Great Range of New York’s Adirondack Mountains, located in the town of Keene and ranked thirtieth among the Adirondack High Peaks. Its name came from its profile beside Upper Wolfjaw Mountain, a likeness noted around 1870 by landscape artist Alexander Helwig Wyant. The first recorded ascent followed in 1875, when trail guide Ed Phelps reached the top. Lower Wolfjaw is crossed by a Great Range traverse and reached by the ADK Range Trail from the DEC Interior Outpost on the Phelps Trail. Its northwestern slope includes notable rock slides, and it remains a classic stop on Adirondack ridge hikes.
