Sawteeth is a 4,100-foot Adirondack High Peak in Keene, New York, ranked thirty-fifth among the region’s highest mountains. Its common name emerged in the nineteenth century from the serrated ridge rising above Lower Ausable Lake, a profile local residents found memorable. An alternative name, Resagonia Mountain, proposed by Massachusetts reverend Erastus Hopkins after an Italian Alpine peak, never replaced the local usage. The earliest recorded ascent came in 1875, when hobbyist climber Newell Martin reached the summit. Two routes from the Ausable Club lead up the mountain, including the older Scenic Trail, known for lake views, open ledges, Lookout Rock, and steep upper stretches aided by ladders.
