Saddleback Mountain, a 4,515-foot peak in the Adirondacks' Great Range within Adirondack Park near Keene, is the 17th-highest Adirondack High Peak. Named by Orson Schofield Phelps and Frederick Perkins for its saddle-shaped ridge, it lies between Basin Mountain and Gothics, with summit views toward both. The mountain also marks the divide between the Johns Brook and Ausable River watersheds, giving it geographic importance in the central High Peaks. The earliest recorded ascent was by amateur climber Newell Martin on August 5, 1894, though an undated earlier climb has been claimed for James J. Storrow and guide Orlando Beede. It is crossed by the State Range Trail and can be part of a full Great Range traverse.
