Lake Nessmuk in Tioga County is one of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission-owned reservoirs that had to be drawn down because of aging dams. During dam repairs, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission used the opportunity to improve fish habitat in a lake bed that contained very little structure such as wood and rock. In 2017, the commission and its partners completed one of their largest fish habitat improvement projects to date there, creating extensive rock and wood cover to support the lake’s future fishery. Fish use such structure at various life stages for spawning, protection of young, and improved feeding efficiency.
