Starvation Creek Falls is a two-tier waterfall in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge, along the Historic Columbia River Highway, where several waterfalls lie close together within about two miles. Its name, and that of the creek, comes from a local story from the winter of 1884–1885, when two Union Pacific Railroad trains were stranded in a blizzard for two weeks near the stream and supplies had to be delivered to passengers and crew by skis. First called Starveout Creek in memory of that ordeal, the waterway later became Starvation Creek. The falls now stand in a forested area near Viento Ridge at the edge of the Columbia Plateau.
