Orenco Woods Nature Park in Hillsboro, Oregon, occupies the former Orenco Woods Golf Course along Rock Creek and preserves most of its 42 acres as open space. The site became the focus of a prolonged development fight in the 2000s after the city re-zoned land previously designated as open space for housing, and private plans for hundreds of homes advanced before opposition, court appeals, foreclosure, and the Great Recession stalled them. Resident Jim Lubischer and later realtor Dirk Knudsen played key roles in efforts to secure the land for public use. Hillsboro and Metro bought the property in 2011, and the park opened in 2017.
