Abrams Mountain is a prominent 12,801-foot summit in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, just south of Ouray on the Ouray-San Juan county line. Rising steeply above Uncompahgre Gorge, it is one of the defining landmarks of the Ouray area and dominates views along nearby highways and the San Juan Skyway. Historic mines on its slopes connect it to the region’s long mining history. The mountain’s name, in use before 1906 and later officially adopted, honors Abram Cutler, the first judge of Ouray County, a notary for Ouray’s original town board, and a civil engineer who assisted Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden’s 1874 survey of the area.
