Uncompahgre Gorge is a deep, steep-walled mountain canyon in the Uncompahgre National Forest just south of Ouray, Colorado, formed where the Uncompahgre River and Red Mountain Creek cut through surrounding mountains. At its north end, the river enters a deep box canyon that is home to Ouray Ice Park. The gorge is closely associated with U.S. Highway 550, the Million Dollar Highway, which is carved into cliffs high above the river. Waterfalls also shape the landscape, including Bear Creek Falls, which drops into the canyon beneath a bridge on Highway 550 south of Ouray.
