Nature
McClellan Creek National Grassland is a protected landscape in southern Gray County, Texas, surrounding McClellan Lake on McClellan Creek. One of the smaller units in the National Grassland system, it covers 1,449 acres, or 586 hectares. The land was purchased after severe erosion for restoration to a more natural condition. The U.S. Forest Service manages it with Cibola National Forest and the Black Kettle, Kiowa, and Rita Blanca National Grasslands, through shared offices in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the Black Kettle and McClellan Creek Ranger District in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. In February 2006, the Interstate 40 fire burned the entire grassland and destroyed most of its trees.
