LaSalle Fish and Wildlife Area in northwestern Indiana near Lake Village protects 3,797 acres along the Kankakee River. Managed chiefly for hunting and fishing, it also supports wildlife viewing, picnicking, boating access, ice fishing, trapping, and dog training. The area is especially notable in spring, when the March migration brings peak numbers of waterfowl and creates one of the best times to observe wildlife. Hunting is allowed in season, underscoring the area's dual purpose as both protected habitat and a place for outdoor recreation.
