Camp Radziminski was established in September 1858 by four troops of the crack 2nd Cavalry under Major Earl Van Dorn. It was named in memory of Lieutenant Charles Radziminski, a former member of the regiment. E. Kirby Smith, Cornelius Van Camp, Fitzhugh Lee, and W. B. Royall all served there. Permanent type buildings were never erected, and the Army abandoned the post on December 6, 1859.
