Central Arizona’s V Bar V Heritage Site, now renamed the Crane Petroglyph Heritage Site, contains the largest known rock art site in the Verde Valley and one of its best-preserved archaeological places, with 1,032 petroglyphs on 13 panels. Southern Sinagua people created the carvings between about 1150 and 1400 A.D. The site was crucial in defining the Beaver Creek rock art style, a regional Southern Sinagua tradition in the eastern Verde Valley, and is unusual because all of its petroglyphs belong to that single style. Its abundant, well-preserved animal, human, and geometric images make it an important reference point for understanding prehistoric rock art in this part of Arizona.
