Auldbrass Plantation in South Carolina’s Lowcountry is an unusual architectural estate designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the only plantation he ever designed and one of just two of his South Carolina works. Built on land with a much older history, including Yamasee occupation before their removal during the Yamasee War, the property was assembled from earlier colonial tracts and acquired in 1938 by Charles Leigh Stevens. Wright created an expansive modern farm complex of more than 20 structures adapted to the coastal landscape, with hexagonal plans, cypress walls, and copper roofs. Delayed by wartime shortages, the project was largely completed in the early 1950s and later restored under Joel Silver.
