Mount Fitzwilliam is a prominent 2,901-metre peak in Mount Robson Provincial Park, British Columbia, near the Fraser River headwaters and Yellowhead Pass. Long visible to travelers approaching Jasper National Park and from the Canadian train, it became a recognized landmark in the Rockies. Walter Cheadle named it on July 8, 1863, after Viscount Milton’s family during their journey through the region, and the name was officially adopted in 1951. First climbed in 1917 by the Interprovincial Boundary Commission, the mountain is geologically notable for sedimentary rock thrust eastward during the Laramide orogeny, with dolomite below and quartzite above, and its runoff feeds the Fraser watershed.
