Mount Putnam stands in northern Vermont on the border of Washington and Lamoille counties within Putnam State Forest. It is the highest point of the Worcester Range, flanked by Mount Worcester to the northeast and Mount Hunger to the southwest, with its summit in Washington County while the mountain also extends into Lamoille County. As Vermont’s sixth most prominent peak, it holds an important place among the state’s mountains. Its slopes belong to the Winooski River watershed: waters flow north to Gold Brook and the Little River, west to Thatcher Brook, and east to Minister Brook and the North Branch of the Winooski before ultimately reaching Lake Champlain and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
