Devils Head is a 9,749-foot summit in Colorado’s Rampart Range, in Pike National Forest southwest of Sedalia, and is notable both as a distinctive landmark and as the site of the active Devil's Head Lookout, a United States Forest Service fire tower. Its name, established in 1923 after several earlier names, grew from late-1800s prospectors who thought the mountain’s profile resembled a face lying back and looking upward, with hornlike features still faintly visible. Reached today by the Devils Head National Recreation Trail, the summit connects striking geology and local naming history with the Front Range’s long tradition of forest fire surveillance.
