Crowley’s Ridge State Park owes its existence to the hard work, dedication, and ingenuity of the local community and the Civilian Conservation Corps. The park contains log and stone structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, including the center structure, the first building constructed there by the men of CCC Company 1729, with side buildings added later by them and other CCC companies. Built in the Rustic Resort Style, it used local native stone and bald cypress timber from the nearby Cache and St. Francis river bottoms. The park’s official grand opening on July 4, 1935 featured the Little Rock Symphony performing for 5,000 visitors, and people have continued gathering there with family and friends for decades.
