Built by the Wheelock Bridge Company of Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1872, Lancaster Covered Bridge spans 128 feet over Wildcat Creek and is supported by cast iron abutments based on a design patented by Alpheus Wheelock in 1870. The original wingwall section remains in its original position, and replicated original lettering from the southwest wingwall appears below. In 1972, Jack Isom Construction Company, Inc., rehabilitated the bridge by replacing broken floor boards and posting a 3 ton load restriction. In 1981, Howard Heavilon carried out major rehabilitation that included constructing the steel support structure beneath the bridge and replacing several floor beams and some of the decking. The bridge was rehabilitated again in 2006, with work including replacement of the lower chords, floor system, siding, and deteriorated members of the upper chord, along with repair and stabilization of the cast iron abutments.
