John Isham was a noted Connecticut gravestone carver who carved nearly 500 stones from 1785 to 1815 while living in East Haddam. Around 1816 he moved to Sharon, New York, and his work is found here, in Lawyersville, and in Saugerties. His trademark was a winged face with a long nose. He moved back to Connecticut in 1819 and continued to carve until about 1823. He died in Farmington.
