Coburn Mountain in Somerset County, Maine, rises within the Kennebec River watershed, with its slopes draining into streams that ultimately reach the Dead River and Moose River systems. Named for brothers Philander and Abner Coburn, who owned and logged much of the surrounding land, the mountain reflects the region’s logging history. At 3,717 feet, it is also a notable recreation site, with Maine’s highest groomed snowmobile trail climbing to the summit under the care of the Coburn Summit Riders. An abandoned fire tower crowns the peak with broad views, and the south-facing slope once held the Enchanted Mountain Ski Area, which operated from 1966 to 1974.
