Built by Felix Buelna in the 1850s, this structure served as a gambling retreat and meeting place for Mexican-Californios. It stood at a strategic point on the earliest trail used by both rancheros and American settlers crossing the peninsula to the coast. After an American acquired it in 1868, it continued to operate under various names as a roadhouse and saloon.
