One mile east stood the home of T.R. English, a Presbyterian minister, statesman, and delegate to the Secession Convention. After attending S.C. College, he was admitted to the bar and served as a legislator from 1830 to 1832. Ordained in 1833, he served as the evangelist of Harmony Presbytery and founded many churches in the Pee Dee area.
