Industry
14
From 1890 to 1930, John Hurd's Big Mill was the North Country's largest sawmill. It had the longest bandsaw in the world and twice broke the world's record for lumber sawed in a day. The Santa Clara Lumber Co. was its main operator, and the industry it fostered created hundreds of jobs. It was often called "The Mill that Made the Town."
