Coney Mountain is a 2,264-foot Adirondack peak near Tupper Lake, known for its bald, treeless summit and broad views that are unusual for a mountain of its size. Originally called Monument Mountain, it was first known to have been climbed in 1772 during Archibald Campbell’s survey of the Totten and Crossfield Purchase, and it later received its current name from Verplanck Colvin because of its conical shape. Its exposed summit and remoteness also make it a recognized dark-sky site. With a straightforward trail built in 2009, it has become one of the Tupper Lake area’s best-known short hikes and a winter snowshoeing destination.
