Round Lake Wilderness Area is a protected wilderness unit in New York’s Adirondack Park within the state Forest Preserve in the town of Long Lake. Established in 2005, it covers about 11,000 acres and includes Round Lake, part of the Bog River Flow, Hitchens Pond, Trout Pond, and several smaller ponds beside the William C. Whitney Wilderness. Its creation placed Round Lake in the wilderness category and reclassified nearby lands from wild forest and primitive status, strengthening protection in this part of the central Adirondacks. In 2007, eleven primitive campsites were established on Round Lake, reflecting its continued use for remote paddling and camping with minimal facilities.
