Bucks County was one of Pennsylvania's three original counties, formed in 1682 by William Penn and the site of his home, Pennsbury Manor. Its name is derived from an abbreviation for Buckinghamshire in England. Doylestown, chosen as the county seat in 1812, was incorporated in 1838.
