Gold and silver discoveries in the early 1860s led to the founding of Peavine. It was later renamed Poe City in honor of John Poe, but it was also called Poeville or Podunk. The district’s boom was brief, lasting only four years. Its main producing mines were the Poe, Paymaster, and Golden Fleece, and a ten stamp mill was in use during that time.
