Bowyer-Holladay House
History
1
Near Fincastle, Virginia, the Bowyer-Holladay House archaeological site preserves the remains of the former Holladay Place plantation complex within The Botetourt Center at Greenfield industrial park. At its core are the ruins of an Early Republic and Federal-style two-story brick house. Surviving elements include a limestone-lined cellar laid out in a rear-centered ell configuration and a log outbuilding standing twenty-five feet north of the cellar bulkhead entrance, showing early timber construction alongside a modern frame addition. The site's preservation offers a tangible link to the area's plantation past and earned listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
