The line at 98° west longitude formed the east boundary of Indian country, with the land of the Cheyenne and Arapaho lying west of it. Each member of the two tribes had been allotted 160 acres before the surplus land was opened to settlers. At noon on April 19, 1892, settlers ran west from this line for homesteads. Gov. A.J. Seay of Oklahoma Ty. was living at Kingfisher, and his grave is nearby.
