Arapahoe Basin is a high-alpine ski area in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains near Loveland Pass, known for an unusually long season, high elevation, and terrain ranging from beginner runs to some of North America’s most demanding in-bounds skiing. Founded in 1945 and opened in 1946, it has changed ownership several times while expanding and modernizing with new terrain, lifts, and facilities. Its identity centers on steep hike-to and avalanche-controlled areas such as the East Wall and Pallavicini zone, while its mostly north-to-northeast exposure helps preserve snow well into June and sometimes summer. Without on-site lodging, it retains a distinct day-area character and now operates year-round for recreation.
