Torreys Peak is a 14,275-foot summit in Colorado’s Front Range, standing on the Continental Divide at the boundary of Clear Creek and Summit counties. One of Colorado’s 53 fourteeners and its twelfth highest summit, it is closely associated with neighboring Grays Peak and was called Heeniiyoowuu, or “Ant Hills,” in the Arapaho language. Its modern name came from botanist Charles C. Parry, who named it for John Torrey after the first European ascent; Torrey did not see the mountain until 1872. Near Denver and reachable by several routes, it has become a classic and widely known destination in Colorado mountaineering.
